Take part in the workshop and make your own amber piece. We promise a break from everyday duties, conversation in fine company and an introduction to the basic techniques of working Baltic amber by hand, an amber that contains succinic acid, which sets it apart from around a hundred other fossil resins.
Although it is an acid, it works positively on people: it stimulates, regulates, disinfects and detoxifies. Baltic amber has a distinctive scent and is a source of energy. Rubbed with the hand it smells similar to incense and attracts specks of dry grass and scraps of paper. In this way it takes on a negative electrical charge, yet a “positive” one, friendly to people. Thanks to these qualities people have for centuries ascribed healing and magical properties to it. They call it the “stone of life”, an amulet that heals, helps and protects.
No two ambers are the same; each one is unique and of exceptional beauty, its colour changing over the years. That is why Baltic amber has been a precious jewellery material for centuries and is not without reason called the noble resin. The workshop was designed and will be led by: Robert Pytlos, amber coordinator at the Office of the Mayor of Gdańsk, journeyman in the amber craft, Ambassador of Pomeranian Craft, author of the entries on amber and amber craft in the Gdańsk Encyclopaedia.
